How Property Managers Use This

After a named storm event or significant hail activity, property managers use this map to determine whether their specific zip code was inside the impact zone - which drives the inspection-vs-wait decision.

Common Questions About Hail Damage

If your property ZIP code falls within a reported hail swath - typically classified as 1-inch diameter or larger by NOAA SPC - schedule an inspection within 30 days of the event. Most carriers require timely notice of loss; waiting for tenant-reported symptoms (ceiling stains, active leaks) means damage has already progressed.
Most commercial property policies require prompt notice of loss - typically defined as within 30 to 60 days of the event date. Some carriers enforce this strictly; others allow up to a year. Read your policy's 'duties after loss' section. An inspection immediately after the event creates the documentation you need to file on time, even if you're still evaluating scope.
NOAA SPC publishes storm reports showing hail diameter (in inches), location, and event date. These records are used to verify date-of-loss during insurance claims - a carrier will cross-reference the reported storm date against your claim date. SPC data covers the contiguous US and is updated after each significant event.

Don't wait for the map
